Embroidery
— I am constantly amazed at what can be accomplished with a needle, some thread, and some sequins and beads… Magic!
Inspired by my love of the designs of Christian LaCroix, this jeweled cross was so fun to create. It was mounted on black, crushed velvet and mounted in a shadowbox. It now hangs in a dear friend’s home.
The ethereal beauty of a Luna Moth rendered in glittering sequins and beads. Try as I might, I am never really able to capture the stunning beauty of these nocturnal creatures…
A rainbow of sequins was used to create these colorful creatures! I especially like the hologram sequins. They glitter with a dazzling array of colors…
I love to see what emerges as I stitch away at a project. This array of beautiful flyers only inspire me to keep sewing… The possibilities are truly endless and limited only by my imagination.
A large swallowtail butterfly in various shades of blue and green. This piece is 11x14 inches and has layers of beaded interest. It now hangs in my den, where the morning light dances across its wings…
These giant creatures of the night are so impressive and elusive! I chose large, faceted gems for the ‘eyes’ on its wings. Faux fur makes for a plump, fuzzy body. The neutral color scheme is in keeping with the earthy colors of these nocturnal beauties.
At first glance, this little fella seems to be black and white. Upon closer inspection, we see the dazzling, rainbow colors that flash as the light rolls across its fins! I just love these sequins and the effect they give.
These little fish pack a lot of punch with their bold color scheme! I chose sequins in a variety of finishes for this piece. I especially like the little polka dotted sequins that my friends at ccartwright.com provided.
This pretty little fancy-tail goldfish was created using an array of sequins in various colors and finishes. The thought of rendering a goldfish in sequins seemed to be an easy task at first; it proved to be more difficult than I imagined!
This fish turned out better than I imagined! As I attached the large, cupped sequins that make up the body, The fabric sort of buckled and the shape became kind of plump and bulbous which really added to the dimensional quality of the little fella! Happy accident…
This design was created using silk shantung in the most delicate shade of pink. The iridescent quality of the fabric offers an ethereal femininity to the dress. I hand stitched the trompe-l-oeil bow design and placed it on the drop waist. The hem is accented with a vintage trim from my stash and adds a bit of weight to the skirt.
This trompe-l-oeil bow applique features a variety of sequins and beads in a neutral palette to compliment the pale silk shantung. The medallion incorporates a vintage trim, the same trim that’s featured on the hem of the dress.
This gown features hand-sewn appliques in a variety of sequins, beads, jewels, and bullion. The flowers are hand made of the same taffeta that acts as a border for the top of the gown, which has a slim, floor length silhouette.
This design features several different elements. Beads, sequins, bullion, all combine for a rich effect. This will wind up on the chocolate velvet gown I am working on.
A variety of jeweled appliques are seen here. They are all in soft neutral tones and would be a rich addition to any design. They’re inspired by the earrings on the right. I love them!
Silk flowers, sequins and beads all come together in these designs to create dazzling Rococo appliques. The flowers have jeweled centers and stamens made from strands of ostrich feather. They float on the slightest breeze.
Swirls of sequins and beads in neutral tones are accented with tiny pink petals. The over-all effect is one of Regal Rococo elegance.
This one shouldered design features silk flowers and embroidered motifs with sequins and beads. The pink silk shantung and vintage beige velvet create a soft, romantic color scheme. I picture this gown at a lovely garden wedding or event.
