School Projects
My time at Radford University has allowed me to explore a lot of creative avenues. Here, I will focus on the labs in my major; Fashion Design.
We got to play with the laser cutter for this project, what fun!!! I took the cherry blossom motives, stacked them, and added beaded embellishments. The effect is rather dazzling, I think…
This project was all about volume. I played around with various collar shapes and sleeve configurations. This exaggerated Peter Pan collar was inspired by a design in a McQueen collection. The billowing bishop sleeves and the half circle skirt add to the figure flattering silhouette that keeps the waist wasp-thin!
Using the laser cutter, I cut monstera leaves out of a batik cotton fabric. By stacking a few pieces and adding beaded embellishment, the fabric is transformed into something new and unique.
I love the fabric used for this project! It’s a sophisticated blue and black jacquard with poppies (I think?). The long jacket is in a double-breasted style and could be worn over a black skirt or even with leggings as a coat-dress.
I absolutely love this chenille fabric! It has lovely, bold red roses accented with metallic gold on a rich, plush chenille background. This is a deceptively simple bias cut dress. The bias cut allows the rather heavy fabric to glide fluidly over the wearer’s curves.
This fabric is just fabulous and it really needed to be made into something dramatic! This corset detailed gown has an enormous, full circle, high-low skirt that sways so elegantly as the wearer moves about accepting compliments…
The wearer of this gown will make quite an entrance as well as a dramatic exit! The project was about boned bodices. A gown, like this, has a hidden inner structure that allows it to appear as if it’s levitating on the body. It is, however, quite secure!
It’s all about fabrics in this design. The vest and trousers are in the same black and white textured wool. The shirt is a viscose blend with a gorgeous print in blues and browns. Pieces, such as these, that are very versatile; will find themselves in many configurations and quickly become a man’s go-to garments!
Project #3 was about designing and using prints. I love prints! I turned to my love of the sea for inspiration here. Using different arrangements, I created all-over collages, border prints, and chose a few singular specimens to feature as motifs. I will be printing a few of these fabrics to use in my own wardrobe…
These are the fabrics I designed for my Print Project. Love them! There are some border prints, some repeats as well as singular motifs that would be splashed across a garment. They say life’s a beach, so get dressed and get out there!!!
I love the fun, resort vibe of this whole collection! I especially love the idea of pajamas at a cocktail party. Why not? When the party winds down just recline and relax…
Here, we see an entire wardrobe of choices for our customer. Pair the pants with any of the coordinating tops for a whole closet full of options! I loved working with the seashell prints for this project, so fun!
I love this inspiration board! Butterflies, roses, fashions from Zimmermann…. What’s not to love! It incorporates the awesome, laid-back, Seventies vibe of their recent collections.
I believe in inclusivity when designing. This gown could be worn to many festive occasions and would be modest enough for most anyone to wear! Add a hijab in a coordinating color and you’re ready to go…
This illustration is from our laser cut project. I imagine the bodice completely covered in laser cut cherry blossoms with beaded details for a bit of glitz. The double layered butterfly floral skirt is set a bit higher than the waist to give the look of mile long legs to the wearer!
This assignment is about fabric manipulation techniques. I am using the machine to embroider a cut-work design around a stiffened collar and cuffs. The over-all design is a billowing poet’s blouse silhouette, all in a coral pink. I love where this is headed!
The collar is added, as well as the sleeves. These sleeves are cut as circles and the entire circumference is gathered into the cuff! They are huge and fabulous!!! The embroidery on the collar was done on the machine, hand guided, and took forever…
